DOWNTOWN POP-UP PICNIC

The “Raleigh Urban Rangers” popped up this lunchtime picnic and hammock hang in “Market Plaza,” a public space off of Fayetteville Street that too often sits empty. A Red Hat worker, who plays the flute during his lunch hour to relax, stopped by to perform for everyone.

Like moths to a light….

Another downtown worker, out for her lunchtime exercise, spontaneously rolled in for an impromptu dance performance.

It’s always amazing who shows up.

Passersby were happy to stop and eat, or grab a hammock, putting their feet up in the middle of downtown. What if more of our public spaces were spontaneously used and animated like this?

When we inhabit spaces, we transform them!
