THE CREEK
The short video below documents a group of boys who grew up together in downtown Raleigh exploring the outdoors. It is testimony to the importance of autonomous outdoor play for children, especially in cities.
These kinds of unstructured natural places for kids to play are essential, but are too often rare in the city. Uncovering and protecting these kinds of places provide critical “habitat” for children. It is in large part due to their free range childhood as "Raleigh's Creek Boys," that these boys have grown up to study environmental science, urban planning, and more, becoming passionate stewards of their environment.
